"Nuwbys"

Nuwbys are a Breed Type of Australian Miniature Goat.

The Nuwbys from Hide-Away Stud have been created by crossing Anglo Nubian types with Australian Miniature Goats.

The Anglo Nubian is an animal that was brought to Australia from England.

The height at the wither for a Buck is 94cm or 37"

The height at the wither for a  Doe is 81cm or 32"

The Anglo Nubian is a very elegant animal with long ears and legs with colours from black/brown to brown/black mottles

Above is a full size Anglo Nubian Doe 32" at the wither with a smaller "Nuwby"Doe in front 24" at the wither.
The size difference is also noticable in the body lenght. I would be estimate the Anglo Nubian Doe would be approx 100 kg and the "Nuwby"Doe would be 35kg.

As Nubians were not normally running with the feral goats of Australia they have not had the advantages of being bred with the smaller animals to get the height reduced.

At Hide-Away Stud we are endeavouring to breed these animals with our Australian Miniature Goats to reduce the height while keeping the long ears and dapple colours.

We have 3 animals with blue eyes in our Nuwby stock and are hoping to introduce this into our breeding lines.

This will be an ongoing challenge and at present we are producing animals on average 25" to 26" which is already a huge reduction from the original of 32" to 37"

We have 3 generations of Nuwbys on our stud and will be selectively breeding for particular traits and to be able to reproduce the same traits.

Most other mini breed types have already been established and have heights down to a nice average of 20" to 21" and will be able in the future get smaller.

This was achieved by using mainly cashmere and angora types that are a smaller goat than Nubians. I do not like to use these types as I feel that a Nuwby should not have an extra winter coat covering their beautiful colours.
