Information from the Miniature Dairy Goat of America, of which I am a member.
American Mini Nubians are still classed as experimental until they have a proven background of type and progeny.
Their new breed is made up of one Registered Nubian Parent and one Registered Nigerian Dwarf to produce a
MINI NUBIAN Dairy Goat
( Ist Generation)
This crossbred animal being a Mini Nubian is to deter people who may try to stunt or breed sickly Anglo Nubians to produce a smaller Anglo Nubian."Mini Nubian" This would be very detrimental to the ongoing health of the offspring.
Two 1st Generation offspring have to be mated together to get the next offspring( 2nd Generation ) and so on.
These animals are show animals and are judged with the same standards as a full size Nubian for type, naturally milk production is less.
Size is not a huge issue but at the moment it is accepted as Mini Nubian Bucks to 32" or less, Mini Nubian Does 30" or less.
Failure to meet the maximum height requirement is considered a severe fault in the show ring but is not disqualified/or de registered.
With the preferred heights being Bucks 23 to 27" and Does 21 to 25" as the breed evolves.
The Nigerian Dwarf goat has a height of Bucks 23.5" and Does 22.5".
The Anglo Nubian height from the Dairy Goat Society of Australia standards is
Bucks 37" and Does 32" .
I have also been advised that Bucks have a minimum of 32" and Does minimum of 30".
To run a comparable experimental Mini Nubian breed in Australia without the Nigerian small gene will take a lot longer to get ,and keep the heights down.
In Australia we should be able to get better ear type as we have mini goats in minikin, munchkin and nuwby types which have a floppy ear to breed with our Anglo Nubians.
I have Registered Anglo Nubian stock that I am breeding with Registered Miniature Goats to produce my first MINI NUBIANS.
I also have the "Nuwby" type of Australian Miniature Goat.
Hopefully Mini Nubians and Miniature Goats in Australia will be accepted by the Show Societies for showing in the near future.

The above are my first Mini Nubian Dairy born to Hide-Away
Why Breed Mini Nubians
1. Some people with smaller acerage love the Anglo Nubian type but want a smaller milking goat to provide the family
...with a milk supply. Particulary when they need to have two goats for the animals to be happy.
2. People who breed the Purebred Anglo Nubian are wanting the larger statue for showing.
3. Smaller goats are easier for children and seniors to handle.
4. A smaller goat often produces 2/3 the amount of milk of a standard dairy goat while only consuming 1/2 the amount of feed.
5. The Australian Miniature Goat is a very hardy goat possibly from some of the feral goats in some of their backgrounds.
....The mix of the two breeds produces a goat that is hardy, elegant ,with a loving personality plus being a good milker.
